building a $1,000/month side hustle
here’s the thing: welcome to my new site! I am starting this project to hold myself accountable as I work to build my dreams. A few weeks ago, I walked into a convention with 27 pokemon cards. I walked out with $1,500.
For years, I have shared with friends, family, my cat, etc. that I want more from life. I don’t want to rely solely on my 9 to 5. I am always thinking of new business ideas, but I’ve never actually taken the plunge—until now. That single, successful trip to Collect-a-Con was the proof I needed. It showed me that the value I have sitting in my collections and my closet could be the key to launching my dreams.
So this is it. This website is my public commitment to accountability. It’s me, finally taking that dive into the massive, terrifying ocean.
My mission is to generate an extra $1,000 every single month.
I know what you’re thinking. “Go get a second job on weekends.” But that’s not the point. The point is to build something for myself using the skills, experience, and hobbies I’ve been collecting my whole life.
But this mission is about more than just extra cash. It’s about taking control. I’m working to pay off significant student loan and medical debt and clearing out some financial hurdles from my past to build a better future. I want to be financially independent.
So, how am i going to do it? Here’s the two-phase game plan.
phase 1: the seed money (first 3 months)
I’m not going to pretend I’m an expert at everything I do here. Again, this is for accountability and keeping track of what I want to do. The plan starts with selling what I already own. I have closet full of clothes I don’t wear anymore and a collection of pokemon cards that I really have no attachment to. I’ve set up a shop on Poshmark and Depop for the clothes and will be using eBay for the cards. The $1,500 from the convention proves this is possible, and I believe I can keep that momentum going.
phase 2: the long-term build (freelancing)
Even if I sell everything I own, that’s a temporary solution. The seed money from Phase 1 is the launchpad for my real long-term goal: building my own freelance business. I want to have my own clients, using my years of experience in marketing, analytics, and graphic design.
The website is the key.
Alongside being my own record of progress, this site is my living and breathing portfolio. I want it to showcase what I can do online, and hopefully, inspire others to take on their own lofty goals.
The journey is about taking control of my finances and my life, learning new skills, and building a community.
the invitation: I’ll be sharing my progress, my profits, and my mistakes right here. Thanks for following along and I’ll leave you with one question, are you where you want to be?
